Parker & Crowther's Pet Of The Month

December 2016

To go along with our Day 2 Christmas hazards.
Meet Sasha. Sasha was brought into our Formby branch as an emergency. She had unashamedly eaten 6-8 delicious dark chocolate coffee creams belonging to her owners. Sasha danced into the practice, her whole body sashaying with her waggy tail. Unbeknown to Sasha, given her small size, and the fact that she had chosen a rich dark chocolate to snack upon, she had eaten a potentially very toxic ...'treat'.
The highest quantities of Theobromine can be found in dark chocolate. Ingesting a large amount of theobromine can lead to vomiting/diarrhoea, cardiac toxicity, seizures, respiratory arrest.
Fortunately, Sasha was swiftly injected with a medicine that would cause her to vomit in order to empty the contents of her stomach. She was later given liquid charcoal to absorb toxins further along the gastrointestinal tract. Sasha thankfully made a superb recovery, but her story acts as a stern reminder about the risk that chocolate, even in small amounts, can pose to our pets.

November 2016

Meet Teddy, he is our first Parker and Crowther pet of the month. We initially met Teddy a few weeks ago when he was diagnosed with pneumonia. He had a long stay in the practice where he received intensive veterinary and nursing care. We are pleased to say he has now made a full recovery and still loves visiting us to have his nails clipped and gives lots of cuddles!
